For converting Latex to Word (and associated formats) the best way (ie one that produces a decent word document that vaguely looks like your tex document) is latex2rtf - unfortunately not in the suse repos so you'll have to find (sourceforge) and build but this is fast and easy and the results are good. Finish the conversion by loading in openoffice and saving as word. It doesn't handle some things, for instance where I labelled sections in one document A, B, C etc it gave 1, 2, 3.

For converting from word to latex format the openoffice extension writer2latex which is installed by default on some suse distros but otherwise in the repos produces an intelligent interpretation of your document in latex format which is pretty much ready to go. It does produce too much redundant formatting but this is probably a result of redundant formatting in the original word document.
